Ant Timpson has been a prominent figure in the film industry since the mid-1980s, with a career spanning multiple facets.
As a manager, he ran an arthouse, programmed for MGM, and created short film events.
Timpson's entrepreneurial spirit led him to launch his own distribution company, releasing specialist films to Kiwi audiences, starting with Slacker in 1993.
In 1994, he founded the Incredibly Strange Film Festival, which has continued to thrive as part of the New Zealand International Film Festival to this day.
In 2003, he co-created the national film competition 48HOURS with Peter Jackson, which has served as a launching pad for talented filmmakers such as Taika Waititi, Roseanne Liang, and Gerard Johnstone.
As a producer, Timpson has overseen numerous successful projects, including the hit anthology series The ABCs of Death, which premiered at TIFF in 2013.
He has also produced a range of features, including The Devil Dared Me To, Housebound, Turbo Kid, Deathgasm, The Greasy Strangler, The Field Guide to Evil, Censor, Untitled David Farrier Project, and more.
Timpson made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed feature Come to Daddy, starring Elijah Wood, which premiered at Tribeca in 2020.
His next feature directing project is The Salamander Lives Twice, starring Adrien Brody.
Throughout his career, Timpson has received numerous accolades, including being the inaugural recipient of New Zealand's Art Entrepreneur Award and serving as a Board member of the New Zealand Film Commission.
He is also the proud owner of the largest personal film archive in the Southern Hemisphere, a 35mm print archive that is a testament to his dedication to the art of filmmaking.
