Ann Brashares spent her formative years in the affluent community of Chevy Chase, Maryland, where she was born and raised alongside her three brothers. Her early education took place at Sidwell Friends, a prestigious Quaker school located in the heart of the nation's capital.
As she entered adulthood, Ann pursued higher education at Barnard College, a renowned liberal arts college affiliated with Columbia University in New York City. Initially, she intended to continue her studies in philosophy at the graduate level. However, after completing her undergraduate degree, Ann took a year-long hiatus from academia to gain valuable work experience as an editor.
This period of time proved to be a transformative experience for Ann, as she discovered a passion for editing and decided to forgo pursuing a graduate degree in philosophy. Instead, she chose to remain in New York City and continued to work as an editor for many years, honing her skills and building a successful career.
Today, Ann resides in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband Jacob Collins, a talented artist, and their three children, Sam, Nathaniel, and Susannah.
