Anja Sovagovic, a talented actress, was born into a family of great esteem, her father Fabijan Sovagovic being a highly respected Croatian actor. Not surprisingly, she followed in his footsteps, as did her younger brother Filip Sovagovic, who also embarked on an acting career from a very young age.
After completing her secondary education, Anja enrolled in the prestigious Drama Academy in Zagreb, where she had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned theatre director Kresimir Dolencic. It was during this time that she co-founded the "Lift" theatre group in 1981, a venture that would lay the foundation for her future success.
Two years later, in 1983, Anja joined the esteemed "Histrion" theatre company, led by the accomplished actor and director Zlatko Vitez. Her time with this company was a valuable learning experience, honing her skills and preparing her for the next chapter in her career.
In 1986, Anja finally found her permanent home at the Gavella Drama Theatre in Zagreb, where she would go on to establish herself as a talented and respected member of the theatre community. It was also during this time that she married her fellow actor, Dragan Despot, with whom she would share a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of performance.
