Angela Rodel is a multifaceted individual, possessing a profound passion for music and ethnomusicology. Her journey began when she joined the Yale Slavic Chorus, where she was captivated by the powerful sound of Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares, a Bulgarian folk music ensemble.
As an undergraduate, Rodel devoted herself to exploring the world of Bulgarian folk music, listening to every available recording and even traveling to Bulgaria in 1995 for the Koprivshtitsa festival. She spent a year studying Bulgarian philology at Sofia University, where she honed her language skills and collaborated with folk singers in Sofia and Plovdiv.
Upon returning to the United States, Rodel pursued a PhD in ethnomusicology, while Bulgarian music continued to occupy a significant portion of her life. She directed the women's Bulgarian choir SuperDevoiche at UCLA and performed and recorded with the LA-based Balkan band Baksheesh Boys.
In 2005, Rodel returned to Bulgaria to study folk singing at the Academy for Music, Dance and Visual Arts in Plovdiv. This marked the beginning of her involvement with the folk-rock band Gologan, which she co-founded in the same year. The group participates in various concerts and musical-literary performances both in Bulgaria and abroad.
In her latest venture, Rodel ventured into the world of acting with The Goat, her first film role. She had the opportunity to work with acclaimed director Georgi Djulgerov and the film's cast and crew, an experience she will cherish for the rest of her life.
