Andrea Prodan's early life was marked by a unique blend of cultures and influences. Born in Rome, he spent his first ten years between Rome and Tarquinia, with his father, an expert in Chinese Art, and his mother, a Scottish woman with two sisters, who were born in China. The family's life took a dramatic turn with the arrival of Mao Tse Tung, leading them to move to Italy in 1948.
Andrea's childhood was marked by his exposure to various artistic endeavors. He attended two schools in England, where he developed his passion for music, becoming the Choir Leader at The King's School, Canterbury, Kent. He also acted in several plays and was one of the two punks in school in 1976.
As he grew older, Andrea's interest in film and cinematography began to take shape. He worked as a production 'runner' on Peter Yates' sci-fi movie "Krull" in 1982 and later as a Sound Assistant on "The Vatican Story", a TV film with Gregory Peck. This experience sparked his desire to pursue a career in film, leading him to drop out of Exeter University and 'drop in' to "Anno Domini", a mini-series with an all-star cast.
Andrea's bilingual skills and interest in cinematography led him to work as a clapper-loader for renowned Italian Cinematographer Ennio Guarnieri on the mini-series. He was eventually cast alongside Ava Gardner and Fernando Rey as Emperor-to-be Britannicus, under the direction of Stewart Cooper.
Andrea's film career has been marked by a diverse range of roles and collaborations with notable directors. He has worked with Peter Greenaway, The Taviani Brothers, Emanuele Crialese, Alex Infascelli, Gianni Amelio, and others.
In addition to his acting career, Andrea has also pursued his passion for music. He composed the music for Ana Gerschenson's award-winning documentary "Caballos en la Ciudad" and co-composed the music for the film "El Jardin Primitivo" directed by Mario Gomez.
Andrea currently resides in Buenos Aires and Cordoba, Argentina, where he is the father of three children. He leads a rock group called "Romapagana" and is also part of a vocal trio called "Maltratan Hamsters". He is currently conducting a radio program and pursuing his film acting career.
Notably, Danish Film Director Jannik Splidsboel shot an exquisite documentary on Andrea's life and family in 2006, while Andrea is currently working on his own documentary, "Dirty Fingernails: The Cinema of Piero Stamij".
