Biography

Pellea was born in the charming town of Bailesti, located in the picturesque region of Oltenia. He began his educational journey at the renowned Carol I High School, laying the foundation for his future success.

As he grew older, Pellea's passion for the performing arts led him to take the stage at various prestigious theaters, including the Craiova Theatre, Small Theatre, Nottara Theatre, Comedy Theatre, and the National Theatre Bucharest. Not only did he hone his craft as an actor, but he also had the opportunity to share his knowledge with others as a professor at the Academy of Theatre and Film in Bucharest.

Throughout his illustrious career, Pellea had the privilege of playing a wide range of roles, from comedic to dramatic. On the big screen, he made a lasting impression as historical leaders, bringing to life iconic figures such as Decebalus, Columna, and Michael the Brave in films like Dacii, Columna, and Mihai Viteazul.

However, it was his portrayal of the lovable and endearing character, Nea Marin, that truly cemented his place in the hearts of Romanian audiences. This iconic character, which originated in TV comedy sketches, made its cinematic debut in Nea Marin miliardar, where Pellea masterfully played the dual role of the innocent Marin and the American billionaire he is mistaken for. This film holds the esteemed position of being the most viewed Romanian film of all time.

Pellea's impressive repertoire also includes other notable historical figures, such as Vladica Hariton in Tudor din Vladimiri and Voivode Basarab in Croitorii cei mari din Valahia. He also appeared in Rascoala and Haiducii, showcasing his remarkable range as an actor.

In 1977, his outstanding performance in The Doom earned him the prestigious award for Best Actor at the 10th Moscow International Film Festival.

Sadly, Pellea is no longer with us, but his legacy lives on. He is buried at the esteemed Bellu Cemetery, a testament to his enduring impact on the world of Romanian cinema.

In a 2006 poll conducted by Romanian Television to identify the "greatest Romanians of all time", Pellea secured a respectable 58th place, a fitting tribute to his remarkable contributions to the world of acting.
