Amlan Datta is a multifaceted creative force, hailing from India, with a diverse array of skills that include producing, directing, and cinematography. As an alumnus of the prestigious Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, he founded his own production company, Animagineer, in 1997.
Throughout his illustrious career, Amlan has received numerous accolades, including three Indian National Awards, for his thought-provoking films that convey powerful social and political messages through relatable human stories. He has consistently pushed the boundaries of cinematic storytelling, exploring a wide range of styles and formats.
One of his most notable works is the 3-minute short musical fiction film "Cockadoodle Do," which premiered at the esteemed Berlinale. In contrast, his 2-hour long documentary "BOM" was showcased at the IDFA, featuring a unique approach with no non-diegetic music. Amlan's distinctive visual narrative style is shaped by his fascination with documentary filmmaking and his extensive experience in the field.
Amlan's creative partnership with his brother, Anirban, has yielded numerous award-winning films. As a passionate cinematographer, he also collaborates on freelance projects, bringing his exceptional camera skills to the table.
