As a Polish-American, Brodka has had a unique upbringing, born and raised in Nowa Sarzyna, Poland before emigrating with her family to New Jersey in 1996. This cultural fusion has undoubtedly influenced her perspective and approach to her passion for skateboarding.
Brodka's journey in skateboarding began at the tender age of 12, and it wasn't until she witnessed women competing in the 2002 X Games in Philadelphia that she became inspired to seriously pursue the sport. However, it was during this time that Brodka noticed a glaring absence of opportunities and visibility for women and girls in the sport. This realization sparked a desire to create change, and she went on to produce her senior thesis at the University of Southern California, titled "Underexposed: A Women's Skateboarding Documentary." This groundbreaking project aimed to shed light on the gender disparities within the sport, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.
