Biography

Alrick Brown is a renowned writer, director, and producer who has made a significant impact in the film industry. He is recognized as one of Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces to Watch, and his collective works have been screened in over 65 festivals worldwide, earning numerous awards and honors.

One of his notable productions is the documentary "Death of Two Sons," which he produced and won the HBO Life Through Your Lens Emerging Filmmaker Award. He was also featured in the IFC Documentary series "Film School" in 2004, produced by Academy award nominee Nannette Burstein.

Brown's first feature film, "Kinyarwanda," premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it received the prestigious World Cinema Audience Award. The film has since screened in over 20 festivals worldwide, adding to Brown's impressive list of honors.

Alrick Brown's journey as a filmmaker began after his two-year tour with the Peace Corps in Cote d'Ivoire, where he visited the slave castle of Elmina in Ghana and was deeply moved by the experiences of the people he met. This experience informed his creative expression and shaped his vision as a filmmaker.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, Brown's upbringing and cultural background have had a significant influence on his work. His commitment to revealing the heart of a story and his dedication to cinematic storytelling have drawn audiences, peers, and clients to his work.

In addition to his work in film, Brown has also ventured into television, directing episodes of ABC's "Final Witness" and ESPN's short documentary series "Spike Lee's Lil' Joints." He has also written and produced for the Emmy-Award winning series "A Crime to Remember."

Alrick Brown holds a BA in English and a Master of Education from Rutgers University, where he also taught an undergraduate course on the African American image in cinema. He received his MFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where he later taught various courses to undergraduate and graduate film students. In 2013, he became a Mid-Atlantic Artist Fellow.
