Biography

Born in New Jersey, Allen Garfield, a talented individual, underwent rigorous training at the prestigious Actors Studio in New York City. Prior to making his film debut in 1968, Garfield enjoyed a remarkably prolific career on the stage, honing his craft and refining his skills. His distinctive physical appearance, characterized by a stocky build and endearing nervous, jumpy mannerisms, proved to be an asset in his portrayal of complex characters. He effortlessly brought to life weaselly criminals, lecherous villains, corrupt businessmen, and politicians, showcasing his remarkable versatility as an actor.

One notable example of his impressive range is his portrayal of the Beverly Hills police chief in the 1987 film Beverly Hills Cop II. Interestingly, Garfield temporarily reverted to his real name, Allan Goorwitz, midway through his career, only to later decide to stick with his stage name, Allen Garfield, and return to it.

Tragedy struck Garfield in the early 2000s when he suffered a series of strokes, ultimately leading to his retirement from acting.
