Biography

Person Biography:

Alice Faye, born Alice Jeanne Leppert on May 5, 1915, in New York City's Hell's Kitchen, rose from humble beginnings to become one of Hollywood's biggest stars of the late 1930s and early 1940s.

She began her career as a singer, making her film debut in George White's Scandals (1934) as "Mona Vale", after Lilian Harvey quit the lead role. Alice went on to star in popular and lucrative musicals, introducing several pop standards, including "You'll Never Know" in Hello Frisco, Hello (1943).

After filming Fallen Angel (1945),Alice walked out on her contract, citing disappointment with the final product. She married Phil Harris in 1941, and they remained together until his passing in 1995, producing two daughters. Alice had previously been married to Tony Martin for four years.

She returned to Hollywood to make State Fair (1962),but later expressed regret for doing so. Her last film was The Magic of Lassie (1978),opposite James Stewart. Alice's films continue to be popular at revival theaters, with her being more well-known in Britain than in the US.

Alice Faye passed away on May 9, 1998, at the age of 83, in Rancho Mirage, California.
