Biography

Alice Elliott is a multifaceted creative professional, boasting an impressive array of skills and accomplishments. She is an Academy Award-nominated director, writer, producer, university-level teacher, advocate for the disabled, cinematographer, and member of New Day Films, an educational distribution cooperative.

Notably, her short documentary, The Collector of Bedford Street, received widespread recognition, including an Academy Award nomination, as well as several festival honors and awards. The film also received the Henry Hampton Award from the Council on Foundations and aired on HBO/Cinemax, screening at over 75 film festivals worldwide.

Elliott's latest film, Body & Soul: Diana & Kathy, premiered on PBS during National Disability Awareness Month in October 2009. The documentary has screened at over 25 film festivals, garnering eleven festival awards, including Best of Festival at the 2008 Superfest, Best Documentary at Talking Pictures, and the Audience Award from 'The Way We Live' Film Festival in Munich, Germany.

With a career spanning nearly two decades, Elliott has produced documentaries that have garnered critical acclaim. Her first film, Diamonds in the Rough, is an hour-long documentary about a gifted, inner-city high school baseball team in Washington Heights, New York City. The film won several awards, including a Chris Award, a NEMN Apple Award, and First Place in the Documentary Category at the South Beach Film Festival.

Elliott co-produced Grist for the Mill, a personal video diary about the effects of divorce on adult children, which aired on HBO/Cinemax.

Currently, Elliott is teaching directing The Miracle on 42nd Street, a feature-length documentary about the Manhattan Plaza housing project, which provides subsidized housing for performing artists. She is a full-time faculty member at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and runs her own boutique documentary film company, Welcome Change Productions, in New York City. Elliott is a member of New York Women in Film & Television and has served as secretary and Board Member. She is also a member of The Arc of the United States, Sullivan County, and Illinois.
