Alexandra Shipp is renowned for her portrayal of the iconic mohawked superheroine 'Storm' in Twentieth Century Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Bryan Singer, in 2016. In this film, she played a younger version of 'Storm', originally portrayed by Halle Berry, and made the character her own by delivering a new spin, earning her the title of "breakout" star from many media outlets. Shipp reprised her role as 'Storm' in the subsequent feature X-Men: Dark Phoenix, released in 2019.
In 2018, Shipp co-starred with Nick Robinson in Fox 2000's coming-of-age story Love, Simon, based on the popular Young Adult book "Simon VS the Homo Sapien Agenda". She also appeared in Simon Kaijser's psychological thriller Spinning Man, based on the novel by George Harrar, that same year. The following year, she had significant roles in the drama A Dog's Way Home, the action thriller Shaft, and the comedy Jexi.
Prior to her extensive film work, Alexandra Shipp appeared in Universal Pictures' Oscar-nominated feature Straight Outta Compton, which has become the highest-grossing music biopic of all-time. Her other notable film credits include the two-hander Tragedy Girls and the title role of 'Aaliyah' in the Lifetime biopic Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, showcasing her singing and dancing talents. She also starred in Drumline: A New Beat, the VH1 sequel to 2002's Drumline.
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Shipp relocated to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue an acting career. She is known for her role as 'KT Rush' on the Nickelodeon teen drama-mystery series House of Anubis and made her film debut in the Fox feature film Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, playing the role of 'Valentina'.
