A Russian-born French experimental short artist, renowned for his innovative collaboration with his American-born wife, Claire Parker, who together pioneered the groundbreaking pinscreen animation technique. He is most famously credited with designing the captivating prologue sequence for Orson Welles's critically acclaimed film, The Trial.
Born in a time when Constantinople was still under Ottoman Empire rule, this visionary artist grew up in a culturally rich and diverse environment that likely influenced his creative pursuits. His remarkable body of work, particularly his 1933 masterpiece, Night on Bald Mountain, was a pioneering fusion of music and imagery, predating Walt Disney's attempt at a similar piece by seven years in Fantasia (1940).
Just two years later, he would go on to produce the first promotional film in France made in color, further solidifying his status as a pioneer in the world of animation and filmmaking.
