Alex Somers, born March 7, 1984, is a multifaceted American artist and musician hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, who pursued his passion for music at Berklee College of Music and Listaháskóli Íslands. Currently residing and working in Los Angeles, Somers has a rich background in the music industry, having previously operated a recording studio in downtown Reykjavík since 2010.
In his personal and professional life, Somers has collaborated with his former partner Jónsi, with whom he parted ways in 2019. Under the moniker Jónsi & Alex, they have co-created music and visual art, releasing an album and a picture book, both titled Riceboy Sleeps. The duo has also worked together on Jónsi's solo project, with Somers serving as co-producer and instrumentalist on Jónsi's album Go. Furthermore, Somers joined Jónsi's live band, playing guitar and keyboards during the world tour in support of Go.
In addition to his work with Jónsi, Somers has produced and mixed numerous records for various artists, including Sigur Rós, Jónsi, Julianna Barwick, Briana Marela, Death Vessel, Sin Fang, and Pascal Pinon.
Alex Somers is also a dedicated advocate for animal welfare and has been a vegan since 2004, adopting a raw vegan lifestyle since 2007.
