Alessandra Ferri, a renowned Italian ballet dancer from Milan, received the esteemed title of Prima Ballerina Assoluta from La Scala in 1992. Throughout her illustrious career, she held the esteemed position of étoile at the Royal Ballet Theatre from 1983 to 1985, the American Ballet Theatre from 1985 to 2007, and La Scala di Milano from 1992 to 2007.
Alessandra's journey in ballet began at La Scala Ballet School, followed by the Royal Ballet Upper School in London. In 1980, after winning the prestigious Prix de Lausanne, she joined the Royal Ballet Company and was appointed Prima Ballerina at the tender age of 19.
In 1985, the renowned dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov extended an invitation to Alessandra to join the American Ballet Theater, where she remained until 2007. During her tenure, she had the privilege of collaborating with acclaimed choreographers such as Jirí Kylián, John Neumeier, and Roland Petit.
Alessandra's impressive array of accolades includes the Sir Lawrence Olivier Award, the Dance Magazine Award, the New York Times Dancer of the Year Award, and the Benois de la Danse. In 2006, she was honored with the title of Cavaliere della Repubblica by President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
After retiring from the stage at the age of 44 in the summer of 2007, Alessandra made a triumphant return to the world of ballet seven years later in 2013.
