Alby Mangels, a visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist, co-founded DAD (Disabled And Disadvantaged children) with his sister Maria Snel during the production of World Safari Two. Through this charity, Alby designed a groundbreaking new wheelchair that transformed the lives of paraplegics, providing them with greater independence for decades to come. This innovative design earned Alby numerous design awards.
In recent years, Alby has dedicated himself to building projects and feeding programs for the homeless and hungry in Micronesia. He has also established a sanctuary for injured and orphaned native animals on a 2,500-acre property in the Coorong, South Australia. Alby's personal efforts included planting over 5,000 trees over many years.
Alby's social enterprise efforts have reached remote corners of the world, including the volcanic island of Tanna in the South Pacific. He supports a water project and humanitarian medical aid program on the island.
As a passionate advocate for animal welfare and wildlife conservation, Alby serves as Patron of the Australasian Primates Association. He also supports the Endangered Tiger Fund, based on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, and the South China Tiger project, based in China and South Africa.
In 2009, renowned Hollywood producer Paul Mason acquired the rights to adapt Lynn Santer's authorized biography of Alby Mangels into a major motion picture. The film is currently in development, alongside plans for a new Alby-centric TV series and re-runs of the original Adventure Bound series.
