Alberto Ammann was born in Córdoba, Argentina, to journalist, politician, and writer Luis Alberto Ammann and Nelida Rey. His parents moved to Spain in 1978-1982 to escape Argentina's military dictatorship. Ammann later returned to Spain to continue his acting studies at the prestigious Juan Carlos Corazza Acting Studio.
In 2009, Ammann's breakthrough performance in "Cell 211" earned him a Goya Award and a Spanish SAG Award, making him one of Spain's best-known actors. He went on to star in "Lope" (2010),a film about the 16th-century playwright Lope de Vega.
In 2011, Ammann costarred with Daniel Brühl in the science fiction film "Eva", followed by the thriller "Invader", in which he played a Spanish military doctor stationed in Iraq. He then starred in "Combustion" and "Tesis Sobre Un Homicidio" with Ricardo Darín.
In 2012, Ammann guest-starred in the English-speaking role of "Mindscape" and starred in "Betibú" in Argentina. In 2013, he traveled to Peru to star in "Oliver's Deal" with Stephen Dorff.
Ammann's recent projects include starring in Netflix's series "Narcos" as Pacho Herrera, leader of the Cali cartel, and playing scientist Javier Delgado in the second season of "Mars".
