Biography

Next person biography:

Alan is a devoted Angelino and native New Yorker from Long Island. For the past 40 years, he has appeared in homes and on screens across the United States and globally. His educational background includes studying with Charles Carshon, Irene and Sonia Moore at Sarah Lawrence College, where he was one of the first three classes of men admitted.

In addition to his college studies, Alan worked with renowned NY Theater artists Will Leach, John Braswell, and Julie Bovaso. He later attended the American Conservatory Theater during the glory days of William Ball, Allen Fletcher, and Ed Hastings, graduating with the first class of MFA artists in 1977.

Alan met his wife, Katherine James, while in graduate school and together they founded Free Association Theater, creating productions in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. He is a recognized and hardworking character actor, having appeared as a Guest Star on over 300 television shows and in numerous films.

Alan maintains an active theater career, performing as a Resident Artist at A Noise Within in Pasadena and a company member of Theatricum Botanicum for over 30 years. He has performed in various classical and modern roles, including Shakespearean clowns. One of his notable performances was as Ira in the Broadway production and national tour of Neil Simon's Laughter On the 23rd Floor.

Alongside his wife, Alan founded Free Association Theater, dedicated to producing original works and classical theater adaptations. They also run ACT of Communication, a trial consulting firm that applies theater skills to the law. The company specializes in training attorneys and witnesses to be effective communicators in and out of the courtroom.

Alan and his wife live in Culver City and are proud parents of two grown sons, Nathan and Jordan, and grandparents to Perspehone and Athena.
