Alan has had a distinguished career in filmmaking, directing three feature-length documentaries, with the most recent being The Jones Family Will Make a Way, which premiered at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in 2015.
In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Alan served as the Managing Producer on Richard Linklater: Dream is Destiny, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2016.
Prior to his career in filmmaking, Alan was the Austin Bureau Chief for the ABC Affiliate in Dallas, WFAA-TV, where he spent 15 years honing his skills as a journalist.
During his time as a journalist, Alan won more than 20 awards for his work, and was twice named the Best Reporter in Texas by the Associated Press.
Alan is a proud alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his degree. He has also taught at the UT School of Journalism, sharing his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of journalists.
In addition to his work in journalism and filmmaking, Alan serves on the Northwestern University Documentary MFA Mentorship Board, providing guidance and support to emerging filmmakers.
Alan is also the Board President of the Society for the Preservation of Texas Music, a non-profit organization based in Austin that produces music-based film content and hosts the Austin Music Awards.
