Biography

Alan McElroy was born in the vibrant city of Cleveland, Ohio, and went on to attend the prestigious Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio, where he nurtured his passion for creative writing. With a keen interest in psychology, he pursued a major in the field at Boston University, before transferring to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and later to Miami's European campus in Luxembourg, where he honed his writing skills and explored the world.

After completing his education and getting married, Alan McElroy embarked on a journey to become a novelist, but his creative path took an unexpected turn when he stumbled upon an article in Writer's Digest magazine that inspired him to write his first screenplay. With determination and dedication, he taught himself the craft, and soon his hard work paid off when he was selected as one of thirty individuals to join the esteemed Columbia Pictures Writing Program.

This life-changing experience not only earned him an agent but also propelled him to become a full-time writer. Alan McElroy's directorial debut was with the Discovery Program's "Under the Car," a testament to his versatility and creativity.

On a personal note, Alan McElroy is a devoted family man, loving father to three children - Ashleigh, Matt, and Mackenzie - and husband to his artistic and homemaker wife, Kymm. Together, they share a beautiful life filled with love, creativity, and inspiration.
