Alain de Botton, a renowned author, was born on December 20, 1969, in Zurich, Switzerland, to Gilbert de Botton and Jacqueline Burgauer, making him the only son in the family with a younger sister named Miel. His childhood was spent in Switzerland, where he developed fluency in French and German. In 1981, his family relocated to London, where he primarily received his education.
De Botton's academic pursuits took him to Cambridge University, where he studied history from 1988 to 1990, and later to Kings College, where he completed a master's degree in philosophy from 1991 to 1992. His literary career began to take shape in 1993 with the publication of his first novel, "Essays In Love".
Since then, de Botton has written numerous books that delve into the realm of "the philosophy of everyday life", all of which have received critical acclaim. His most notable non-fiction work, "How Proust Can Change Your Life", published in 1997, has been particularly well-received.
