Al Razutis is a multifaceted artist, blending expertise in filmmaking, multimedia, education, and innovation to push the boundaries of motion-picture film and video, stereoscopic 3D video, holographic technologies, and web-digital graphics for websites and virtual reality.
Throughout his illustrious career, spanning over five decades, Al has been creating and showcasing avant-garde and documentary films and videos since the late 1960s, holographic displays and art since the early 1970s, and web virtual reality and stereoscopic 3D video art since the 1990s.
As a hands-on creator and technical innovator, Al has developed custom-made film optical printing, video synthesizer, holographic recording and imaging technologies, which have been utilized in his published and exhibited works. He openly acknowledges the influence of pioneers from the 1960s and 1970s, such as Moog, Buchla, Whitney, Brakhage, Cross, Benton, and others, whose groundbreaking work in technology and the arts has shaped his creative vision.
Al's films have garnered numerous awards, including the 1988 Los Angeles Film Critics Award, and his media art works are featured in various international collections, having been exhibited globally. Some notable exhibitions include a 1997 stereoscopic 3D video showing at the Louvre, a 2002 film-video retrospective at the Electronic Media Arts Festival in Osnabruck, Germany, and a 2004 exhibition of 3D video, film, and video at SeNef, Seoul, Korea.
