Biography

Akbar made his screen debut in 1993 with a critically-acclaimed performance as Majit in the film Bhaji on the Beach, which led to him landing the lead role of Farid in My Son the Fanatic alongside Rachel Griffiths. His impressive portrayal in this film caught the attention of directors and led to him being cast in key roles in several prominent productions, including the Oscar-winning film Syriana alongside George Clooney and Kanel Hanna, and the hit HBO mini-series House of Saddam.

Akbar has also had a successful career in British television, appearing in leading roles in numerous soap operas, dramas, and situation comedies. Some of his notable credits include Mr. White Goes to Westminster, The Bill, Heat of the Sun, Second Sight, Command Approved, Esther Kahn, Lloyd & Hill, Doctors, Casualty, Front Line, Keen Eddie, Eastenders, Waking the Dead, Holby City, Beneath the Skin, The Last Detective, Forgiven, Bonekickers, and That's for Me!

In addition to his impressive film and television credits, Akbar has also gained critical acclaim in the theater world. He has produced several successful productions, including Baghdad Wedding and This isn't Romance, which premiered at the Soho Theatre in London's West End.
