Akash Sherman, a talented Writer/Director, has made a significant impact in the film industry at a remarkably young age. At just 22, he was recognized as one of Playback Magazine's "5 Filmmakers to Watch in 2017", an achievement that reflects his impressive creative output to date.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Akash began making films in his hometown, eventually making his festival debut at the age of 16 with his heartfelt short film "For Them, for You" (2011). This film won the "Best Narrative" and "Best of Fest" awards at the 2011 Future of Cinema Film Festival in Michigan.
After the success of "For Them, for You", Akash continued to produce high-quality content, including his short film "A Teaching Game" (2012),which took home a Jury Award at the 2012 Edmonton International Film Festival. He was also a Top 5 finalist in the nationwide competition, the 2013 Cinecoup Film Accelerator, with his epic film "Uprising".
In 2014, Akash collaborated with the City of Edmonton on his first documentary, "Through My Eyes" (2014),which sparked a local call to action to eliminate youth homelessness. He then relocated to Toronto to study film at Ryerson University's School of Image Arts, where he left the program in 2015 after completing an improvised, found footage feature called "The Rocket List" (2015).
Akash's first narrative feature film, "Clara" (2018),was optioned by Serendipity Point Films and was later given the opportunity to direct the film, starring Patrick J. Adams (Suits) and Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars).
"Clara" (2018) was officially selected to have its World Premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, marking a significant milestone in Akash's career.
