Biography

Aisling Walsh's journey in the world of fine art began at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology, where she pursued a degree in Fine Art. Although the institution did not offer a film course at the time, Walsh's interest in filmmaking was sparked by the film appreciation society she joined. Through this society, she developed a passion for the craft and started creating her own short films.

Following her graduation, Walsh worked in a shop to save up funds for her next academic pursuit - the National Film School in Beaconsfield. As she felt that the Irish film industry was still in its infancy, Walsh decided to continue living and working in England, where she secured financing for several projects and landed regular television work.

Walsh's filmography includes two controversial films, Joyriders and Sinners. Her latest project, Song for a Raggy Boy, is based on the true story by Patrick Galvin and is set in the late 1930s. The film tells the story of a lay teacher, played by Aidan Quinn, who joins an Irish Reformatory school and is appalled by the harsh regime. With courage and conviction, the teacher must find the strength to stand up against the oppressive system.

Aisling Walsh's dedication to her craft has led her to create thought-provoking and emotionally charged films that continue to captivate audiences worldwide. Her ability to weave complex narratives and portray realistic characters has solidified her position as a prominent figure in the film industry.
