Biography

Agam Darshi is an internationally acclaimed actress, writer, and director, having made a significant impact in the world of television, film, and theater. With a career spanning multiple platforms, she has collaborated with esteemed directors and actors alike.

One of her notable projects is her work on Ava DuVernay's series DMZ for HBOMAX, where she played the role of Mia Franklin opposite Rosario Dawson. Additionally, she starred in Oscar-nominated director Deepa Mehta's latest film, Funny Boy, based on Shyam Selvadurai's bestselling novel. For her performance, Agam was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in 2021 and won a Leo Award.

As a writer, producer, and director, Agam has made a name for herself with her film Donkeyhead. The film, in which she starred alongside Kim Coates, Sandy Sidhu, Stephen Lobo, and Husein Mandhavji, was executive produced by Deepa Mehta and premiered on Netflix in January 2022. Donkeyhead went on to win several awards, including Best Feature Film Award, Best Support Actor, and Best Editing at the Mosaic Film Festival, as well as Best Direction in a Feature Film at the Vancouver Women's International Film Festival.

Agam's achievements did not stop there. She was also recognized for her work on Donkeyhead at the 2022 Leo Awards, winning awards for Best Screenplay, Best Lead Actress, and Best Lead Actor. Furthermore, she was awarded Best Director at the 43rd Durban International Film Festival in 2022 and was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Directing at the 2022 Director's Guild of Canada Awards.

In addition to her film work, Agam has recently co-created and directed the pilot episode of the upcoming TV series Our Big Punjabi Family, set to premiere in 2023.

As a recipient of the prestigious Film Independent Project Involve 2020 Fellowship as a writer, Agam has also co-founded the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival (VISAFF),now in its tenth year. This festival aims to bridge the gap between South Asian talent and mainstream audiences, breaking stereotypes and expanding North American views on South Asian culture.
