Adan Canto, a multifaceted Mexican-American artist, embarked on a journey to pursue his passion for music at the tender age of 16. Prior to his acting career, he spent his time in Mexico City writing and producing songs for film and television, honing his skills as a musician.
As he continued to grow as an artist, Canto began to explore the world of acting, landing roles in various Mexican commercials. His breakthrough came when he was cast in the television series Estado de Gracia, marking the beginning of his transition from commercials to television.
Canto's stage presence soon became evident as he took on the lead role in the adaptation of Pedro Almodovar's critically acclaimed film, All About My Mother. This milestone in his career led him to further explore the world of acting, and he eventually made the transition to American television.
In 2013, Canto made his American television debut, playing the role of Paul Torres in the Fox drama series, The Following. His subsequent roles included the portrayal of real-life politician Rodrigo Lara Bonia in Netflix's drama series Narcos in 2015.
Canto's versatility as an actor was further showcased in 2016 when he was cast in the ABC political drama series, Designated Survivor, playing the role of White House Chief of Staff Aaron Shore opposite Kiefer Sutherland, Natascha McElhone, and Maggie Q.
In addition to his acting endeavors, Canto has also ventured into filmmaking. In 2014, he wrote and directed his first short film, Before Tomorrow. His subsequent short film, The Shot, earned several festival awards for Best Narrative Short Film in 2020, solidifying his status as a talented and multifaceted artist.
