Biography

Adam Rifkin is a multifaceted Writer/Director with a career spanning a wide range of genres, from broad family comedies to cult classics, dark and gritty dramas, and everything in between.

His most recent project is the poignant drama THE LAST MOVIE STAR, which he wrote and directed, starring Burt Reynolds, Ariel Winter, and Chevy Chase. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it was acquired and released by A24.

Rifkin also directed the wild and twisted meta-thriller DIRECTOR'S CUT, penned by Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller. The film was the opening night selection at the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival and was released by Epic Pictures under their horror banner, DREAD CENTRAL PRESENTS.

He also directed the documentary GIUSEPPE MAKES A MOVIE, which follows the life of trailer park filmmaker Giuseppe Andrews and his misfit family of homeless performers. The film holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rifkin's previous work includes the award-winning film LOOK, a controversial drama that explores the concept of surveillance, as well as the limited series LOOK: The Series for Showtime, which he executive produced.

He earned cult status with his film THE DARK BACKWARD, which was named one of the top ten films of its year by The New York Post. He also directed the cult classic DETROIT ROCK CITY for New Line Cinema, which continues to inspire generations of rock fans.

Rifkin's critically acclaimed film NIGHT AT THE GOLDEN EAGLE was an official selection at the London Film Festival and opened to rave reviews.

As an A-list screenwriter, Rifkin has a knack for family-friendly fare. He wrote the screenplay for UNDERDOG for Walt Disney Studios, a comedy based on the 1960s cartoon show, as well as MOUSEHUNT and SMALL SOLDIERS for DreamWorks. His next project is the animated feature PEEPS, a Lego Movie-esque film based on the iconic candy brand, which he will write and produce.
