Adam Carolla was born in Los Angeles, but his upbringing was marked by a series of moves, with stops in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and finally North Hollywood. His mother, a recipient of welfare benefits, held a degree in Chicano studies, while his father was a psychologist. Adam credits his success, in part, to his ability to overcome the challenges posed by his upbringing.
After graduating from North Hollywood High School, Adam attended junior college for a brief period before dropping out. He then embarked on a variety of careers, including working as a carpet cleaner and a skilled carpenter/builder. In his free time, Adam also trained boxers, honing his skills as a boxing trainer.
Adam's early forays into the world of entertainment took place with The Groundlings, an improv group that has launched the careers of numerous famous comedians. When Jimmy Kimmel challenged Adam to a boxing match at Los Angeles radio station KROQ in 1994, Adam served as his trainer. The experience led to Adam securing a job on KROQ's "Kevin and Bean Morning Show."
It was on KROQ that Dr. Drew Pinsky, the original host of the Loveline radio show, discovered Adam and was impressed by his style. In 1995, Dr. Drew offered Adam a job as co-host of Loveline on the radio, and the show went on to become nationally syndicated in the United States. In 1996, Loveline transitioned to television, airing on MTV as a late-night, hour-long program. The show, which Adam co-hosted with various celebrities, including Diane Farr, Catherine McCord, Laura Kightlinger, and Kris McGaha, enjoyed a successful four-year run before concluding in 2000.
Adam and Dr. Drew continued to co-host Loveline on a syndicated national radio network, often joined by celebrity guests, until 2005, when Adam left the show. During his time on Loveline, Adam also began to explore other creative ventures, including writing for and occasionally guesting on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
In addition to his work on Loveline, Adam co-created and worked on The Man Show with Jimmy Kellison, as well as Crank Yankers, a popular comedy series that premiered in 2002. Adam continues to apply his talents to a variety of comedic projects, solidifying his status as a versatile and accomplished entertainer.
