A.C. McCray is a multifaceted individual hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, with a childhood deeply rooted in the nostalgia of 1980s pop culture. This exposure to a wide range of influences, including pop music and slasher films, laid the groundwork for his future endeavors.
Early on, McCray's exceptional cognitive abilities were identified, and his rapid pace of life made it challenging for those around him to keep up. Despite facing a tumultuous childhood, he redirected his energy towards creative pursuits.
In high school, he was mentored by Randy Stewart, who encouraged him to explore his passion for acting. McCray spent his formative years honing his craft, and his senior year, he was offered a prestigious scholarship to a renowned acting school. However, he turned down this opportunity, opting instead to remain in his hometown and continue working as a stage actor and director.
McCray's first foray into film came in 2008 with a small role in Katie Madonna Lee's The Execution of Julie Ann Mabry. This marked the beginning of his journey in the film industry, with subsequent roles and projects following suit.
However, his career was temporarily derailed by a year of personal tragedy in 2011. The loss of his infant son and grandmother, just a few months apart, was a devastating blow. McCray channelled his grief into creative expression, writing and directing his film debut, The Destination, which premiered exactly one year after his son's passing. The event raised funds for Riley Children's Hospital, and McCray's dedication to his craft was reinvigorated.
In 2013, McCray resumed his film career, and since then, he has been consistently booking roles and projects. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Sluggo in the popular splatstick horror comedy series, House of Whores, and has also appeared alongside Bruce Campbell in the documentary, Hail to the Deadites.
McCray's upcoming projects include the LGBTQ Horror Rock Musical, Kill Dolly Kill: Dolly Deadly 2, and the film, Dream Girl, directed by Jeremy Max. He has demonstrated his versatility as an actor, capable of tackling a range of roles, from horror and comedy to drama.
Throughout his life, McCray has consistently demonstrated the importance of perseverance and dedication. He hosts the Infamous Horror Podcast for the IH Network and is working on a book of true short stories based on his life experiences. McCray currently resides in Chicago, Illinois, with his family.
