A tailor in the 1950s has a life-changing medical emergency and begins to obsess with the stars after a near-death experience. He abandons his tailoring business to build an observatory with his friends, gaining recognition and even government support. However, his newfound passion takes a toll on his personal life, and he loses his wife. As the first Sputnik is launched, the authorities demand he close his observatory. Despite this setback, he becomes a sensation at an astronomy convention, not for his amateur astronomy skills, but for his uncanny ability to guess the measurements of the delegates.
