Max Manus, a veteran of the Norwegian forces in Finland, returns home to find Norway invaded and occupied by the Nazis. He establishes a resistance movement, but initial failures force him to flee to Britain, where he trains with the British and helps form elite commando units, becoming a skilled and successful commander among them.
