In the movie, Clint Reno, a man who stayed behind during the Civil War, is shocked to discover that his brother Vance has returned home to find that Clint has married their former girlfriend Cathy. As the family struggles to reconcile their differences, Vance becomes embroiled in a train robbery of Federal Government funds while still a Confederate soldier. This sets off a conflict of interest when Vance tries to return the stolen money, despite his fellow Confederates' objections.
