A test pilot, Lieutenant Dan Prescott, breaks protocol and becomes the first person to fly beyond the ionosphere in his experimental rocket plane. When he's unable to turn back, he ejects and crashes, covering himself in metallic debris. The pilot's compartment lands safely, but without the pilot. Soon, cattle and people begin to turn up with their throats brutally slashed, as if killed by an axe-wielding creature with a taste for blood.
