A recently widowed doctor, Dr. Joe Darrow, struggles to cope with the loss of his pregnant wife in a Red Cross mission in Venezuela. Despite his atheist beliefs, he starts to sense his wife's presence through the children he treats in the Pediatrics department of a Chicago hospital.
