Ali Reed, owner of Monarch Salon, and her family, including her college student sister Chelsea and mother Carol, are busy preparing for the annual Miss Golden Peak Beauty Pageant. The salon is a hub of activity as they cater to the contestants' beauty needs. Meanwhile, Police Chief Fred Wright, who has a long-standing relationship with Ali, asks for her help in solving a murder that occurred at the event venue. The victim is associated with the pageant, and Fred wants Ali to keep her eyes open for any clues. This unofficial request brings up painful memories for Ali, who is still grieving the murder of her husband, Detective Dan Reed, two years ago. Ali has always believed that the wrong person is behind bars for Dan's murder, and this new case has her reeling. As she navigates her feelings and helps Fred with the investigation, she must also contend with Detective Kyle Crawford, who is leading the official investigation and is skeptical of Ali's involvement.
