Pierre, a Parisian poet, is on the cusp of fame, while his friend Henri wins Marie's hand in marriage to settle her father's debt and secure a better social status. Pierre flees to Algeria, where he discovers his passion for erotic photography with Zohar. Two years later, he returns to Paris, only to find Marie confessing her true love for him. They embark on an affair amidst the city's erotic photography scene, navigating the complex web of societal codes and the lives of those around them, ultimately becoming two of France's most renowned writers and poets of the 19th century.
