A lonely German salesman, Johann, travels through rural Brazil in 1942, promoting Aspirin in small villages with advertisement movies. He befriends a drifter, Ranulpho, who dreams of a better life in Rio de Janeiro. As their bond grows, Brazil declares war on Germany, forcing Johann to choose between returning home to fight or staying in a concentration camp. A third option emerges: joining the migrants fleeing a drought in Amazonas.
