A young and introverted boy named Moncho discovers solace in his captivating teacher in 1936 Spain, but their bond is disrupted when fascist forces take control and the teacher is detained, leaving Moncho to navigate a treacherous new reality.

In a small town in Galicia, Spain, 8-year-old Moncho embarks on a transformative year, forming close bonds with his teacher and friend Roque, and discovering the joys of music. However, the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War shatters the idyll, as the Republic is attacked by Fascist rebels, and Moncho's father and teacher are forced to confront the harsh realities of war.
