Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and anti-Nazi dissident, fought against the Third Reich as a key founding member of the Confessing Church movement. Known for his opposition to Hitler's persecution of Jews, Bonhoeffer was arrested, imprisoned, and eventually hanged for his association with the 20 July plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
