In this crime comedy, a tough and popular New Orleans detective makes an arrest on his way to court, unaware of the suspect's crimes. He meets the mother of his rival, an uptight assistant DA, who is obsessed with rules and wants the detective off the force. As the rival's life spirals out of control, including a failed court case, a tasing by police, and the theft of his beloved '56 Studebaker, he and the detective form an unlikely partnership to track down the stolen car, which is just one of many on a "shopping" list.
