Ruby Carter, a former beauty queen, leaves St. Louis for New Orleans to escape prizefighter Tiger Kid and starts working at "The Sensation Club" owned by Ace Lamont. She becomes the town's sensation, but is marked as Ace's personal property, angering his former flame Molly Brant.
