Atlantic City is a place where people go to realize their dreams, where old buildings are torn down to make way for new hotels and casinos. The story follows three dreamers: Sally, a waitress training to be a blackjack dealer, Lou, a former numbers runner with a dead dream, and Grace, a recluse who came to Atlantic City to participate in a beauty contest. Their lives intersect with the arrival of Sally's estranged husband Dave and his pregnant girlfriend Chrissie, who bring with them a cache of stolen cocaine, threatening to dash their dreams.
