In the small Danish town of Kalleby, Albert, a lovable troublemaker, always seems to find himself in sticky situations. After accidentally toppling a beloved statue, the townspeople are less than thrilled. Joining forces with his best friend Egon, Albert sets out on a wild adventure to find a real balloon, along the way encountering a motley crew of friends, including robbers, gypsies, and even the world's largest diamond.
