A notorious outlaw is escorted by a small-time rancher to a train, but their journey is disrupted by the outlaw's gang attempting to rescue him.
Outlaw leader Ben Wade is captured in a small town, but his gang remains a threat. Rancher Dan Evans is persuaded to take Wade secretly to the nearest town with a railway station, where they await the train to Yuma. However, their hiding spot is soon discovered, and a tense standoff ensues.
