Valentina background

Valentina

An 8-year-old José Garcés shares a nostalgic childhood story in a small Spanish town, which brings joy to fellow prisoners in a French prison camp 28 years later.

In 1911, an 8-year-old José Garcés, a mischievous and troubled boy, lives in a small town in northeastern Spain. He is smitten with his neighbor Valentina and sends secret semaphore messages to her from his rooftop at night. He writes poems and gets into trouble, accidentally killing her father's prized pigeons. During a family camping trip to a dilapidated castle, José's tutor, a kind priest, teaches him about the virtues of saints, heroes, and poets, inspiring him to become a hero himself.
