A ragtag group of Spanish loyalists, led by a shoemaker and his girlfriend, find a massive cannon discarded by the French army and begin to restore it to take back their country from the French occupation. A British agent arrives to retrieve the cannon for England, but the shoemaker demands they blast open the French stronghold in Avila together before helping him get the gun back to his ship. The group faces numerous hardships as they move the massive weapon across Spain, all while evading the French.
