Kees Popinga, a timid office clerk, discovers his boss, De Koster, has embezzled funds from their Dutch company due to his obsession with a French woman, Michelle. After a confrontation, De Koster's life is cut short and Popinga flees to Paris with the stolen money, pursued by the authorities and Michelle.
