Czech choreographer Jirí Bubenicek and his stage designer brother Otto arrive in New Zealand to re-stage their ballet, The Piano, for the Royal New Zealand Ballet. As they work with Maori cultural advisor Moss Te Ururangi Patterson to adapt the work for a New Zealand context, they face challenges to their concepts of freedom of expression. Meanwhile, the dancers must come to terms with the famous characters and the love triangle they are caught up in, and discover that retelling the story raises questions about inter-personal relationships.
